Ní Mór Seasamh le Kneecap

Ní Mór Seasamh le Kneecap

Mar Ghaeil, mar dhaoine daonna a sheasann i gcoinne an chinedhíothaithe sa Phalaistín, ní mór dúinn seasamh le Kneecap. Tá an grúpa faoi ionsaí i láthair na huaire, ní hamháin ó na mórmheáin chorparáideacha sheoiníneacha agus Shíónacha, ach, ó stát na Breataine chomh maith. Tá “aonad sceimhlitheoireachta” i  measc póilíní Shasana ag fiosrú ar chóir an banna a ionchúiseamh i ngeall ar “thacaíocht a léiriú leis an sceimhlitheoireacht”. Agus deir an Príomh-Aire, “Sir” Keir Starmer, go bhfuil sé “ceart” go mbreathnódh na póilíní ar ráitis a rinne Kneecap. Níor deineadh aon imscrúdú ar Starmer féin nuair a d’áitigh sé go raibh sé “de cheart ag Iosrael” uisce na bPalaistíneach a ghearradh.

Tá seantaithí ag muintir na hÉireann, ach go háirithe Éireannaigh na Sé Chontae, ar chleasanna salacha stát Shasana. Bhí an cogadh sna Sé Chontae ó 1969 ar aghaidh breac le brathadóirí agus gníomhairí rúnda státchóras Shasana a d’fheidhmigh i gcoinne saoirse na tíre, mar a léiríonn cáipéisí agus fianaise atá á scaoileadh le blianta beaga anuas.

Ó chuala aos óig SAM teachtaireacht Kneecap ar son na Palaistíne ag féile cheoil Coachella, tá fórsaí antoisceacha ag feidhmiú ina gcoinne. Tá saoirse cainte na n-ealaíontóirí i gcoitinne i mbaol. Shínigh scata bannaí agus ceoltóirí (ina theannta, Christy Moore, Damien Dempsey, Massive Attack, Primal Scream) ráiteas a thacaíonn le cead cainte bannaí cheoil, agus ba chóir fáiltiú roimhe sin, óir is cosúil go bhfuil lucht rachmais an tionscail cheoil sásta Kneecap a “chealú”.

An rud is measa faoi seo ná go bhfuil aird á dhíriú ar ráitis banna ag ceolchoirmeacha a tharla roinnt blianta ó shin seachas ar an slad atá ar bun ag Iosrael sa Phalaistín anois díreach. Is mithid neamhaird a dhéanamh den aos polaitiúil agus tacú le seasamh Kneecap a cháineann gníomhaíochtaí Iosrael.

As Gaels, as human beings who oppose the genocide in Palestine, we must stand with Kneecap. The group is currently under attack, not only from the Shoneen and Zionist corporate media, but also from the British state. A “counter-terrorism unit” within the English police is investigating whether the band should be prosecuted for “expressing support for terrorism.” And the Prime Minister, “Sir” Keir Starmer, has said it is “right” that police should examine statements made by Kneecap. No investigation was carried out into Starmer himself when he claimed that it was “Israel’s right” to cut off Palestinian water supplies.

The Irish people — especially those from the Six Counties — are well acquainted with the dirty tricks of the British state. The war in the Six Counties from 1969 onwards was riddled with informers and secret agents from the British state apparatus who acted against the country’s freedom, as documents and evidence released in recent years have shown.

Since young people in the U.S. heard Kneecap’s message in support of Palestine at the Coachella music festival, extremist forces have been operating against them. The freedom of speech of artists in general is under threat. A host of bands and musicians (among them Christy Moore, Damien Dempsey, Massive Attack, and Primal Scream) signed a statement supporting the free expression of musical groups, and that should be welcomed — because it seems the wealthy elite of the music industry are willing to “cancel” Kneecap.

The worst part of all this is that attention is being focused on statements made by the band at concerts several years ago rather than on the slaughter currently being carried out by Israel in Palestine. It’s high time we ignored the political establishment and supported Kneecap’s stance condemning Israel’s actions.
